In advance of their London and Manchester shows performing New Order’s third and fourth albums, “Low Life” and “Brotherhood” for the first time in September 2014, Peter Hook & The Light are to return to Cardiff for their third warm up show in the city, Wednesday 24th September at Glee Club.
Having played to sold out crowds at Clwb Ifor Bach in January 2013, the band’s first ever “Movement”/”Power, Corruption & Lies” performance as well as in Cardiff, The Light then performed Joy Division’s two albums at The Globe, prior to their trip to China this Spring so the band’s gig continues the band’s run of warm ups in the Welsh capital.
With both “Low Life” and “Brotherhood” performed in full, the shows will also include the other tracks from arguably New Order’s greatest period taking in Thieves Like Us” “Bizarre Love Triangle”, “The Perfect Kiss”, alongside album tracks such as “Elegia”, “Sooner Than You Think”, “Paradise”, and “Every Second Counts”.
With The Light’s concerts running up to 1987, New Order enjoyed their biggest international hit “True Faith”. Some seven years after the demise of Joy Division and a decade on from first forming, the band had come full circle to hit heights never thought possible, showing that “Dreams Never End”.
Peter Hook & The Light’s “Lowlife” & “Brotherhood” concerts chart New Order’s final stage of evolution from the post punk of Joy Division to defining themselves as electro pop pioneers at the cutting edge of the emerging club scene in the mid to late Eighties. /
On Peter Hook And The Light Live
“Not only did Hooky and his band open the show with Joy Division songs, he proceeded to play New Order’s two full albums and a stellar encore….Hooky and his band really put 110% into this show.” LA Record
“Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen have competition when it comes to marathon concerts. Stepping into the ring is former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook, whose current tour finds him on stage for three hours.” Irish Independent
“Taking in the show, I could imagine that this is what it might have felt like hearing the original New Order playing that material back in the day.  More organic and authentic to the time. I really, really enjoyed this show immensely.” Rock Subculture
“Best decision I made all year? Quite possibly…. My god, man. Go see this band…. Well played, Mr. Hook. Well played.” The Pale Drummer
“Besides the experience of witnessing an authentic and honest reproduction of the material, a significant element of the show was Peter Hook’s relentless engagement with his instrument; never have I seen anyone play an instrument in such a sustained way for so long. His stage presence and showmanship added to the performance as well; this, combined with equalling dedication from the rest of the Light, resulted in a great documentation – and celebration – of the early days of New Order.” Counterpoint Magazine
