Peter Hook And The Light made their debut performances of New Order’s “Movement” and “Power Corruption And Lies” with three sold out concerts at the turn of the year, the final of which was a highly acclaimed event, at Manchester Cathedral Friday 18th January 2013. Dubbed “quite extraordinary” and “a real triumph” by critics, the Manchester concert was recorded in full by Play Concert and is to be released digitally exclusively at their site on Monday 22nd April. Also in advance of extensive touring dates due later in the year, The Light have just announced a string of UK dates featuring the New Order albums, including a new London date with a headline show at The Coronet on Saturday 21st June where the band intend an electronic influenced set from the albums and singles and a return to Buxton Opera House for a double header featuring both “Movement” and “Power, Corruption & Lies” in full on Tuesday 23rd July.
The Light are also to perform a “Movement” and “Power Corruption & Lies” highlights show at the Crooked Ways Festival on Saturday 1st June with dates playing the Joy Division albums “Unknown Pleasures” and “Closer” also coming up in Holmfirth and Russia in April, Barnaby Festival, Macclesfield in June and Rebellion Festival in Blackpool August of this year.
The Manchester Cathedral recording sees the performances of the albums in full and in sequential order, which has become central to The Light’s live performances and the band also revisit many of the singles of 1981 to 1983 including “Ceremony”, “Everything’s Gone Green”, “Temptation” and “Blue Monday” The last album from the band to be produced by Martin Hannett, “Movement’s reputation has grown stronger amongst fans since its release. Hooky took lead vocals on albums tracks, opener “Dreams Never End” and “Doubts Even Here” and also in Manchester runs through the lighter touches of “Chosen Time” and “Senses”, alongside the emotion and soul searching of the LP’s centre-point “The Him”, “ICB” and “Truth”. In comparison, “Power Corruption And Lies” shows the emergence of what is termed the archetypal New Order electronic sound. Enthusiastically received on release, the album contains some of the fan’s live favourites such as “Age Of Consent” and “Your Silent Face” with“Age Of Consent”, “Your Silent Face” and the delicately wrought and soulful “Leave Me Alone”, Play Concert had previously released two shows by The Light, Preston and Leeds, recorded on last year’s “Unknown Pleasures” UK Tour in November, both of which are available to download from Play Concert in full.
