Hook forms Monaco with former Revenge band mate David Potts.
February – “What Do You Want From Me?” released on Polydor records on cassette, CD and limited edition red vinyl.
Featuring hooky’s trademark bass sound, “What Do You Want From Me?” would reach number 11 in the UK charts and shift nearly 90,000 copies.
April / May – Monaco support The Charlatans on their UK tour.

May – Sweet Lips – Another pleasing on the ear track is released by Polydor on Cassette 12 inch and CD. Reaches a respectable number 18 in the UK chart.
The Masterpiece 5 track CDR and one track Tape to Tape promos are highly sought after. The French sweet lips “remixes” 6 track CD Promo is becoming rare these days.
May – Shattered released by Polydor as a one sided 12″ promo. Limited Edition of 100 worldwide.

August – I’ve got a feeling released on Roadrunner Records in the EU. Individual EU countries put release information stickers on in their own language on the promo CD’s
. Hamer Records (Turkey) with Turkish language promo sticker and Swedish Albumrelease Promotions being examples.
The CD was withdrawn in the UK due to a B-Side sample issue. Stickered Revolution Promotions CD’s were readily available in the UK.
August – Monaco (Self Titled) CD is released by Papillion Records. Due to severe financial pressures on the record label the Album was hardly promoted and failed miserably to make an impact on the chart or fans. Papillon records became insovent and was closed by parent company Chrysalis in 2002.
The CD would go on to be sought after and regularly commands up to £30 on internet auction sites.
August – The Official Monaco website www.monaco.co.uk is launched (site and link now inactive!)
August – Monaco play in Holland and the UK, Milky Way (milkweg) Amsterdam (9th) Manchester University (29th) The Scala, London (31st)
Rising tensions between Hook and Potts would go on to see Monaco split up. Hook would then go back to New Order.
March – Papillon Records release the see-saw track from the Monaco Album as a double 12″ promo. The see-saw 2X12″ promo often goes for up to £25 a time.
A see-saw 12″ white label also exists and fetches up to £30+ .A UK CDR of See-saw does exist as a one off.
October – Monaco regroup to perform at The Ritz Manchester in aid of Oxfam. Hooks son Jack also performs.
